The image, shown above, looks like it could have come from any show, really. It’s actors Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, in character as Hal Jordan and John Stewart respectively, casually walking down a rural road. You’d never know they are intergalactic policemen from outer space with power rings that create massive objects of pure energy…unless you were told that.
Maybe the special effects just haven’t been added yet? No, the look here was intentional. Gunn himself says Lanterns will be “very grounded, very believable, very real. The kind of things that you would never think that would be the truth about a Green Lanterns television series.” The plot is that they’re investigating a murder somewhere in middle America, what the logline calls an “earth-based mystery.” I think their talents would be mostly wasted on something this small. Surely there’s a giant growling space monster somewhere eating civilians….
“From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion,” says Chris Mundy, executive producer and showrunner. “The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”
No word on when we could be seeing Lanterns show up, but it’s targeted for a release sometime in 2026.
