[Drama Chat] Drama highs and lows of 2025 (so far)

Half the year is behind us already, and so now seems as good a time as ever to think about what dramaland has given us so far. While there have been some incredible dramas this year, there have also been a number of disappointing and middling shows.

2025’s personal lowlights all went on my dropped dramas list, as nothing could bring me to finish When the Stars Gossip or Newtopia. While I did manage to finish Buried Treasure, that show ended up being the sort of drama you wish you hadn’t bothered watching to the end.

Two of my 2025 highlights have actually been sageuks. While I’m always willing to give a sageuk a try, it’s not one of my go-to genres so I was surprised I ended up loving The Tale of Lady Ok and The Queen Who Crowns as much as I did. Other highlights were The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call and Weak Hero Class 2.

But if I had to choose just one, my favorite drama of 2025 (so far) is Our Unwritten Seoul. These days, it’s rare that I ever rewatch a drama, but Our Unwritten Seoul has me not just rewatching episodes, but theorizing about all of the characters’ histories and the ending. The combination of an outlandish twins plot and the everyday emotional challenges the characters work through have made the drama my weekend highlight.
