Disney+ Promises a Smart, Funny, and Realistic Legal Drama With ‘Law and the City’

KDramaHQ AdminJune 14, 2025

More burned out than brilliant — and more realistic than romantic — “Law and the City” is a smart, witty, and compelling new legal drama about the lives of Seoul’s overworked and underappreciated legal professionals, premiering July 5 on Disney+.

Tucked away from the bright lights of Gangnam and the party scene of Hongdae lies Seocho, a bustling legal district that’s home to countless lawyers struggling to reconcile their past ambitions with their present realities. In “Law and the City,” we follow ninth-year associate Ahn Ju-hyeong, a competent lawyer who’s mastered his craft but has grown too comfortable to take the next step in his career. Jaded from fighting for clients who don’t always align with his moral principles, Ju-hyeong is shaken when Huiji — a bright and ambitious newly qualified lawyer — joins the firm and reminds him of what he once aspired to become.

Produced by CJ ENM Studios, a subsidiary of Korea’s entertainment powerhouse CJ ENM, “Law and the City” stars Lee Jong-suk (“Big Mouth,” “Romance Is a Bonus Book”) as brilliant yet burned-out lawyer Ahn Ju-hyeong, and Moon Ga-young (“Link: Eat, Love, Kill,” “The Interest of Love”) as Kang Huiji, an idealistic new lawyer not yet worn down by the realities of the profession. The series is written by Lee Seung-hyun, a practicing lawyer, and directed by Park Seung-woo (“Adamas,” “Kairos”).

“Law and the City” is the latest title to be announced as part of an eagerly anticipated slate of Korean content set to arrive on Disney+. Fans of must-watch Korean series can also look forward to the recently announced Original “Delusion” (working title), about a vampire in mourning; “Low Life,” about backstabbing degenerates desperate to recover a life-changing treasure; and “Tempest,” about a diplomat and a special agent racing to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the stability of the Korean peninsula.

A twelve-part series, “Law and the City” premieres July 5 on Disney+.
