Crunchyroll has just revealed their planned list of releases for Blu-ray in August. The first will be the long overdue physical release of The Concierge, the feature film from Production IG that was released in Japan in 2023, then in US theaters last year.
The concierge of the title is Akino, a trainee who’s just started out at Hokkyoku, the department store with a very unusual purpose: it caters entirely to anthropomorphic talking animals. Akino runs around to fulfill the wishes of customers with a myriad of needs and problems, with the goal of earning the right to be hired on full-time.
The store’s most valued clients are extinct species (who aren’t extinct in the film’s world) and Akino must do anything she can to please them. The film is the first feature production from director Yoshimi Itazu (Welcome to the Ballroom), and is an adaption of the book The Concierge at Hokkyoku Department Store by Tsuchika Nishimura.
One week later, The Concierge will be followed by THREE releases…the biggest being the physical debut of No Longer Allowed in Another World Season 1, an isekai about an early 20th-century gothic author who’s been pulled into a lively, wacky fantasy land with RPG mechanics. It will be released as both Standard and Collector’s Editions, with the more expensive containing three art cards. Special features in both editions include episode previews, promo videos and, of course, textless opening and ending sequences.
Don’t forget One Piece…Season 14 Voyage 6 hits Blu for the first time August 19, and Collection 38 (spanning episides 917 to 940) comes out a week later. Here’s Crunchyroll’s full list of August Blu-rays, with links to the store.
