Cross ~ I Became a Doctor to Avenge My Father’s Murder

KDramaHQ AdminJune 8, 2025

“Cross” is a 2018 Korean drama series, with 16 episodes, categorized as Medical Drama, Thriller, Crime, and Mystery; streaming on Tubi TV.

SUMMARY: My father was murdered by a member of a criminal gang involved in illegal organ trafficking. I became a doctor to get revenge. Rather than work at a prestigious hospital, I chose to work at a prison medical office. It’s the same correctional facility where my father’s killer is serving his sentence. His death will be “convenient”. He confessed that he murdered my father for the money. It was business, not personal. Me? I don’t need or want money. It’s personal!

When You’re Poor, Nobody Cares If You Die!

In “Cross”, Kang In-Kyu loves his father and his little sister. He has a happy family, even though they are poor. However, it makes him unhappy that, because they are poor, his sister can not receive proper medical treatment. To make matters worse, his father became a victim of illegal organ traffickers and was murdered so that they could harvest his organs.

Kang In-Kyu was at the crime scene where they found his body. The killer was also there as he had already been arrested for the crime and was on his way to prison. Kang In-Kyu was about the age of a middle schooler when that tragedy struck. He made sure he got a really good look at the killer. He memorized his face because he planned to cross his path again one day.

Kang In-Kyu and his sister were orphaned, and Go Jung-Hoon, a doctor, adopted them. Go Jung-Hoon is a surgeon, and he encouraged Kang In-Kyu to follow in his footsteps. He did become a surgeon, but sadly, when he was still young, his little sister died. It wasn’t about money this time because they had been adopted by a physician who was financially well-off. Kang In-Kyu believed his adopted father let his sister die on purpose, so that her organs could be donated to another child.

  • Now there were two people in his life that he could not forgive: the man who killed his father and the adopted father who let his sister die.

Kang In-Kyu did become a doctor. Indeed, he was an excellent surgeon, and when he was just a few months away from becoming a specialist, he quit! Instead, he went to work at a prison medical office. It was the same correctional facility where his father’s murderer was serving his time. The prisoner did not recognize the young boy who was now a man, but Kang In-Kyu knew the killer’s face as soon as he saw him.

The primary reason for working at the prison was to get revenge. A doctor can very easily kill a patient if they know what medicine to give them. Kang In-Kyu did not become a doctor to save lives. He became a doctor to get revenge. While working at the prison, he also uncovered an illegal organ trafficking operation. Sick prisoners were “conveniently dying”.

The cause of death can be very convenient. For example, a patient might die from “hypoxic brain damage”. That sounds serious, doesn’t it? It just means the person’s brain was deprived of oxygen. That can be easy to do in a prison setting. If the prisoner is declared brain-dead, the organs can be “donated”. Of course, all of the necessary paperwork is available for presentation to the medical staff.

The organs of the prisoners were being donated to the same hospital where Kang In-Kyu’s adopted father worked. His adopted father had a daughter from a previous marriage who also worked there and she was the Organ Transplant Coordinator. Was that also convenient? Were father and daughter a part of the illegal trafficking OR are they innocent and clueless and just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

The plot thickens.
