AdminFebruary 26, 2025

“Blood” is a 2015 Korean drama series with 20 episodes, categorized as Medical drama, Horror, Romance, Comedy, Rom-Com, Supernatural, and Science Fiction (Sci-Fi); and streaming on Viki and KOCOWA+.

SUMMARY: What is it with vampires? Why do some of them want to be human? A young vampire has been infected with a virus. It is possible he can find the cure and if treated properly he will become human. Meanwhile, he works as a surgeon at a hospital where he sees and smells blood all the time. But the patients need not worry because he can control his lust for blood. (Most of the time.)

I Want to Become Human

In “Blood”, Park Ji-Sang volunteered to work as a doctor in various parts of the world. He traveled the world because he was searching for a link to his past. In the opening scene, Park Ji-Sang has finally found the graves he has been looking for. Even though he was told: “Don’t search for death. Death will find you.” He needed to confirm something about a secret tomb passed down as a legend and he did. The graves were real and contained the skeletal remains of vampires.

Flashback to Park Ji-Sang’s childhood.   It’s a typical Halloween night in Small Town, USA. On Halloween night, real vampires can walk around freely without anybody noticing because everybody is wearing a costume, so they blend in. Two murderous vampires walked the streets undetected and used brute force to invade the home of a local resident. That resident is also a vampire. But he’s kind of “special”. He, along with his wife, and baby son, live among humans. However, caution is needed because they were infected with VTB-01 virus. Because the parents were infected they passed the infection to their child.

Lee Jae-Wook, a medical research scientist and doctor has been hunting Park Ji-Sang’s parents and finally found them. What does he want? He wants their baby for his experiments. Park Ji-Sang’s parents have also been researching and trying to find a cure for the VTB-01 virus, but they failed. Lee Jae-Wook’s research is … questionable, but he likely has evil intentions. Park Ji-Sang’s parents knew Lee Jae-Wook would find them and prepared for it. Park Ji-Sang’s father stayed at home while his mother escaped with her baby. Lee Jae-Wook killed the father and started searching for the baby boy, but he had great difficulty locating the child.

Park Ji-Sang grew up and as a teenager, he knew he was different. His mother assured him that he was not a monster; he was infected. If he continued their research he might find a cure and he can become human. Two significant events happened during his teen years that changed his life.

Event 1: Yoo Ri-Ta and her parents were visiting a forest with lovely trees and clean air while she complained about not being on vacation in Hawaii. While her parents were taking photographs, Yoo Ri-Ta saw a cute rabbit and chased after it. She got separated from her parents and suddenly found herself in a dangerous situation about to be attacked by a pack of wolves. That day, Park Ji-Sang, was also in the forest and he used his superhuman strength to save her. He didn’t realize that Lee Jae-Wook’s men had been tracking him. Park Ji-Sang also didn’t realize that years later he and Yoo Ri-Ta would be working together as surgeons in the same hospital.

Event 2: Lee Jae-Wook’s men found out where he and his mother were living. They came to his home when he was not there and attacked his mother. By the time he arrived, he could not save her. The attackers had given her a lethal injection. Park Ji-Sang’s mother knew that one day they might be found so she left him a video message explaining everything. The only thing she did not tell him was who murdered her and his father. She said that when he became stronger he would find out on his own. Park Ji-Sang surely didn’t know that years later he and Lee Jae-Wook, the man who murdered his parents, would be working together in the same hospital.

The plot thickens.
