In “A Widow’s Game”, the main character, Maje (full name is María Jesús Moreno), was a nurse in Valencia, Spain, who became notorious for orchestrating the murder of her husband. She had not even been married a year. Maje was cunning and manipulative, had multiple affairs, and convinced one of her lovers to kill her husband. In 2020, Maje was sentenced to 22 years in prison, and her lover received 17 years.

Eva Torres is the lead investigator, a homicide detective, who quickly sees through Maje’s two-faced deception. But of course, she needs proof! This character is partly based on Esther Maldonado Marin, the real-life homicide detective who led the murder investigation.

Ivana Baquero gained international recognition for playing Ofelia in “Pan’s Labyrinth” (2006), and won the Goya Award for Best New Actress. She starred as Eva Villanueva in Netflix’s “High Seas* (2019–2020).
Carmen Machi portrayed Aída García in the Spanish sitcom “7 vidas” (1999–2006), which led to the spin-off “Aída” (2005–2014). It was her breakthrough role. She won a Goya Award for Best Supporting Actress for “Spanish Affair” (2014). In 2024, she was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts for her contributions to Spanish culture.
