The cast and crew of “Good Boy” gathered at a press conference in Seoul to give fans a sneak peek into their highly anticipated action-comedy series. Director Sim Na-yeon, alongside stars Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok, shared insights on the series and things to look forward to.
“Good Boy” premiered on Prime Video last night (May 31) in the Philippines and over 240 countries and territories worldwide. Here’s why you absolutely can’t miss it:
“Good Boy” boasts a completely star-studded cast. From the creators to the actors, everyone brings accolades and talent to the table.
Director Sim Na-yeon previously won the Best Drama Award at the 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards for “Beyond Evil.” Her 2023 series “The Good Bad Mother” was also a popular hit. Meanwhile, writer Lee Dae-il is known for hit dramas including “Life on Mars,” “Bring It On, Ghost,” and “Chief of Staff.”
Park Bo-gum is fresh off the success of “When Life Gives You Tangerines.” His pairing with Kim So-hyun has been anticipated by fans for 10 years since they co-hosted an awards ceremony together. Oh Jung-se continues to impress with chameleon-like roles in series such as “Revenant” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.”
Lee Sang-yi has steadily built up recognition through works like “No Gain No Love,” “Spice Up Our Love,” and “Bloodhounds.” Heo Sung-tae gained global fame for his role in the viral first season of “Squid Game.” Tae Won-seok has delivered strong performances in “Player” and “Private Lives.” With so much great talent, this is definitely a winning combination.
Look forward to an abundance of action and laughs. Each actor trained for three to eight months for their medalist-turned-officer roles, showing a high level of dedication.
Park Bo-gum shared, “I really wanted to portray my character well, and all the actors would arrive early and train every day.” Director Sim Na-yeon praised the cast for their commitment, noting how comedy was blended into action scenes: “I thought about how sports like wrestling and discus throw could be utilized for fighting. We made some adjustments and chose a comedic angle for this.”
Tae Won-seok teased a particularly humorous scene: “The scene is really funny and a bit fantasy-like. I hope you look forward to it.” This perfect mix of physical action and comedy is sure to entertain.
While crime investigation dramas are often dark and intense, “Good Boy” takes a lighter approach.
Director Sim Na-yeon shared, “Regarding the tone of the series, it’s approachable with comedic and dramatic elements — it’s an easy watch. We made the series so that people could approach it comfortably and have fun watching it.”
Kim So-hyun added, “We filmed during the hot summer, so I think the series will be a refreshing watch this summer. I hope you can relieve your stress while watching.”
Lee Sang-yi also chimed in, “After working and before going to bed, I usually watch something. If you watch ‘Good Boy’ before going to bed on the weekends, you will have a refreshing time with delicious late-night snacks.” With that said, don’t forget to add “Good Boy” to your weekend routine.
One of the most refreshing aspects of “Good Boy” is its justice theme. As underdog heroes take down villains, the audience can experience cathartic satisfaction.
Director Sim Na-yeon explained that the heart of the series lies in the medalist-turned-police-officers fighting for justice. Park Bo-gum said, “I was impressed by the characters who fight for justice. The five characters show that justice is still alive. I hope we can be a small source of support for government employees who are fighting for justice in the real world.”
Oh Jung-se, who plays the villain, said, “The charm of ‘Good Boy’ was so strong. There are characters that have some sad stories, so you want to root for them.” In a world full of injustice, witnessing justice on screen will be all the more satisfying.
While packed with action and humor, “Good Boy” also delivers thoughtful messages.
Oh Jung-se remarked, “’Good Boy’ is refreshing and easy to watch, but the director also included various things for people to think about and contemplate.” He noted that viewers will reflect on themes of villainy and justice.
Heo Sung-tae shared, “I was surprised to find myself having tears in my eyes while reading an action scene.” Even the action moments can strike an emotional chord.
Park Bo-gum added, “Embarking on a new challenge can become a driving source in one’s life. I also had a new start through this series. If you’re experiencing difficulty with your new start, I hope that ‘Good Boy’ can be a source of comfort. I think ‘Good Boy’ has a good direction for viewers.”
