2 Korean Ghost Films Involving Crime and Mystery (Pt 1 of 2)
Recommending two movies that are “unusually strange” (in my opinion). Horror is not my favorite genre, but if the plot involves crime and mystery, my curiosity gets the better of me.
Movie (1) is part 6 of a film series, and the first “Whispering Corridors” was released in 1998. It’s hard to find each film on US streaming platforms. Each movie is set in an all-girls high school, and they are not related, so if you didn’t see the previous films, no worries.
♦ (1) Whispering Corridors 6: The Humming (2021)
GENRE: Ghost stories, Horror, Supernatural, Fantasy, Crime, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, High School
STORYLINE: No Eun-Hee has a new job as a vice-principal and guidance counselor at a high school she used to attend, but she transferred out. A friend advised her not to go back there because it might trigger bad memories. But she insists this will be good for her. She is receiving psychiatric treatment and says it’s for insomnia, but her mental health is probably more intricate than that. The principal tells her she better keep it a secret because she doesn’t want to be blamed for hiring someone to work around students with a mental illness.
However, as soon as she starts working at the school, she begins hearing voices or “humming” and seeing … a ghost (???). No Eun-Hee is not sure if she saw anyone or anything because when she chases after a girl standing alone in the schoolyard, it’s like she disappeared.
Meanwhile, Kim Ha-Young is a victim of school bullying, and she accuses her teacher of sexually assaulting her. It was a lie. She only said that because it was a “cry for help”. The teacher didn’t assault her, but she knew that he had assaulted other students. One student was her friend who allegedly committed suicide. Although her friend might have been murdered.
Either way, Kim Ha-Young believes the teacher she accused was involved in her friend’s death. But the teacher has connections, so it’s hard to reveal the truth. Kim Ha-Young also thinks she is seeing and hearing a ghost, but doesn’t know if it’s her friend or another girl. She heard the story about another girl who committed suicide years ago. That girl attended the high school when No Eun-Hee was a student there.
So what’s going on? Are No Eun-Hee and Kim Ha-Young both suffering from a mental illness and accusing people of crime and possibly committing crimes? -OR- Is that high school haunted by vengeful ghosts who want justice for their unjust death?

Viewership and Rating:
I agree with the rating of the Viki viewing audience.
